Paola Mattei

The Associate Professor of Comparative Public Policy at the Department of Social and Political Sciences, University of Milan, Italy. Previously, she was an associate professor at the University of Oxford, visiting scholar at Stanford University, and visiting fellow at Sciences Po and WZB Berlin as well as the T.H. Marshall Fellow at the Department of Social Policy of the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Her research investigates the problematic relationship between accountability, democracy, markets and managerialism in public services’ reforms. She published four books: Restructuring Welfare Organisations in Europe: From Democracy to Good Management?, University Adaptation in Difficult Economic Times, Public Accountability and Health Care Governance and Secular Institutions, Islam and Education Policy. France and the U.S. in Comparative Perspective.
